Trauma Therapy in Belle Meade, TN
Letting someone know you're struggling can feel like a big step. You may worry about being misunderstood, being pressed for details, or not finding the words for something you've kept private for a long time.
We can take our time with that. You can begin a conversation without telling me everything.
I'm Dave Saunders, LPC-MHSP, NCC. I welcome adults from Belle Meade for trauma therapy at my office in Maryland Farms, about eight miles southeast in Brentwood.

When trust feels difficult
After a frightening or harmful experience, you may become more careful about what you share and who you let close. That caution makes sense. It can also leave you feeling alone with something heavy to carry.
You might notice that you pull away during conflict, second-guess your reactions, or stay on alert even around people you usually feel comfortable with. There may be physical tension, or times of feeling numb and disconnected.
We'll look at these reactions together and understand how they fit into your life. The National Center for PTSD describes common responses after trauma, including changes in trust and closeness.
A beginning that leaves room for your questions
You're welcome to ask about my experience, how sessions work, and why I might suggest a particular approach. If you've been in therapy before, I'd like to hear about that too.
We can start with what feels hard now. You may want help with a particular memory, a reaction that keeps coming back, or the way earlier experiences affect your relationships. Your own words are enough.
Part of our work is finding what helps you feel comfortable taking part. If something is unclear or feels too fast, just say so. That conversation belongs in therapy.
My approach to trauma treatment
I'm Level II trained in EMDR and Brainspotting, with additional training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. My work pays attention to how stress shows up in your body, alongside your thoughts and emotions.
We'll talk about your concerns and choose the approaches that make sense for you. Before working directly with distressing memories, we spend time on preparation, including ways to manage difficult feelings and stay connected to the present.
EMDR is one option, and it's a long-standing, evidence-based treatment for PTSD. It works with memories and the thoughts and sensations connected to them, using guided eye movements or another form of alternating stimulation. We'll decide together whether it fits your situation. You can read more on my EMDR therapy in Belle Meade page. If anxiety runs underneath a busy, capable life, you can also read about anxiety therapy in Belle Meade.
What you might want to change
You may want to feel more at ease with someone you trust, recover more easily after a reminder, or spend less time questioning your own reactions. We can talk about these goals in concrete terms.
We'll keep checking how the work is helping in your life outside the office. Your feedback guides us, so share what's working and what you'd like to change.
