Trauma Therapy in Nolensville, TN
By the time you think about getting help for yourself, there may not be much energy left. You have people to care for, work to finish, and a day that keeps moving whether you feel ready or not.
So you put it off. Then the same tension, overwhelm or urge to shut down comes back, and you wonder how long you can keep going like this.
I'm Dave Saunders, LPC-MHSP, NCC. I see adults from Nolensville for trauma therapy at my office in Maryland Farms, a short drive away in Brentwood. We can talk about what's become hard and how to make room for support.

When coping takes up too much of the day
After trauma, getting through an ordinary day can take effort other people don't see. You might need time alone after a disagreement, feel tense when plans change, or notice you're only half present in a conversation.
Sometimes the response is an urge to do more and keep moving. Sometimes it's wanting to disappear for a while. If those reactions are wearing on your relationships or leaving you exhausted, they deserve care and attention.
The National Center for PTSD describes common reactions after trauma, including changes in emotions, physical tension and connection. Together we'll explore how they relate to your experience.
Starting with your life as it is
You don't need a quiet month before you contact me. We can talk about the pressures you're under and what's realistic right now. They're part of the work.
I want to understand what feels hardest, who supports you, and what has helped before. If your main goal is getting through the evening without feeling overwhelmed, that's a great place to start.
We can also look at the moments just before you react. Maybe your shoulders tighten, you lose the thread of the conversation, or you feel a sudden need to get away. Noticing that earlier helps us understand what you need and where you have more choice.
How trauma therapy can help
My work is collaborative and pays attention to thoughts, feelings and physical responses. I'm Level II trained in EMDR and Brainspotting, and I also use trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.
We'll talk about how these approaches fit your concerns. Therapy may include learning ways to calm distress, understanding reminders, and working through difficult memories when you're ready. You can always ask what an approach is meant to help with and what it involves.

Finding a pace you can work with
With work and family waiting after each session, the pace of therapy matters. We'll plan the work with your week in mind, and how you feel between visits helps us set the right pace.
Your honest feedback shapes the work. Let me know what's helping and what you'd like to change, and we'll adjust together.
