PTSD Therapy in Nolensville, TN
Poor sleep can make an ordinary day feel very long. Add a sudden memory, a strong startle, or the feeling that you need to keep watch over everything around you, and there may be little energy left by the time you get home.
You might be less patient than you'd like, then spend the evening feeling bad about it. It makes sense to want help with all of that.
I'm Dave Saunders, LPC-MHSP, NCC. I see adults from Nolensville for PTSD therapy at my office in Maryland Farms, a short drive away in Brentwood.

How PTSD can affect daily life
PTSD can leave you feeling on alert long after a traumatic experience. Sleep may be broken by nightmares or by trouble settling. A reminder can bring back a memory so strongly that it's hard to stay with what's happening now.
You might start avoiding things that bring up those feelings. You may also feel distant from people, have trouble concentrating, or notice guilt and irritability taking up more room than they used to. We'll look at the full picture together.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, a PTSD diagnosis involves a specific pattern of symptoms lasting longer than a month and affecting daily life. You can reach out for support at any point after a traumatic event. My page on trauma therapy in Nolensville covers the wider range of reactions after hard experiences.
Starting with what you need now
We can begin with whatever is making life hardest this week. What happens at bedtime? When do you feel most tense? Are there reminders you've started arranging your day around?
I'd also like to hear what you've already tried and how it went. That helps us decide where to begin and what kind of support will be most useful.
PTSD treatment with me
My training includes Level II EMDR and Brainspotting, along with trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I work collaboratively and pay attention to your thoughts, emotions and physical responses as we go.
EMDR is one of the treatments recommended for PTSD. It pairs attention to a memory with guided eye movements or another form of alternating stimulation. We begin with preparation and talk about readiness before moving into memory processing.
You can tell me whenever you'd like to pause or change the pace. You'll always know what we're doing and have a say in how we move forward.
For more about the process, see EMDR therapy in Nolensville. If stress shows up in your body as tension or poor sleep, you can also read about anxiety therapy in Nolensville.
Working toward more ease at home
You may want to wake up feeling rested, react less to a sudden sound, or listen to someone without part of your attention staying on guard. These are meaningful goals for treatment.
Therapy makes room for both what happened to you and how you want to show up for the people at home. We can work toward that with kindness toward yourself.
